I am having very bad hot flashes and night sweats almost unbearable each time I have one my bp & hr spike very high. Is this causing more stress on my heart? I am currentky doing cardiac rehab. My cardeologist doesn't seem to be too concerned. just really don't want me to take hormone therapy. is there any other 'natural or thing that I can do? any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you

Breast cancer is caused by many factors, and is already established 7-11 years before it is detectable by any current method. A family history such as yours should cause you to consider all the parts of your life that can be improved to cause you to decrease your risk. Stop smoking, reduce weight so that your BMI is less than 25, decrease intake of alcohol and carbohydrates, make sure you take supplements and vitamins such as iodine 12.5 mg/day, and the supplement DIM that decreases the "old lady estrogen" that comes from the adrenal gland and not the ovary, that causes breast cancer.

You cannot change your genes, but you can exercise daily and follow the lifestyle changes above. As for pellets, they are given in the same way and the same form as the estrogen, estradiol, that you made in your ovary when you were young. They have the same effect and are not found to increase risk of breast cancer. They ARE found to decrease the risk of heart disease, alzheimers, dementia, frailty that causes us to need nursing care and be unable to walk, osteoporosis, and many other diseases, as well as treat the quality of life issues you list.

Pellets are best when combined with testosterone because testosterone helps estradiol protect you from all of these diseases as you age. The WHI study from 2001 misinformed the public and has been found to be wrong and the colleges of OBGYN have published their non-suport of the study since the review of the data was wrong, however, they still follow guidelines that were directed by that study.

Please consider the risks and benefits of taking or not taking hormones to help you make a decision.

Dear Dr Maupin, I was very interested in hearing you talk about oxytocin.
Unfortunately I don't live in America. I live in London and am being treated with bio-identical hormones for life-long migraines and menopausal symptoms. The migraines have improved greatly and also my energy levels, but the remaining problem is my non-existent libido, which started disappearing from the age of 50. What you say about a deficiency of ocytocin hits my problem exactly on the head, unfortunately my doctor has not been able to source a reliable supply of oxytocin yet for me to try. Is there any way it can be obtained from America?
I would be grateful for any help. Sunje

That is a very interesting question! Testosterone and thyroid are two different types of hormones. Because of that fact (their chemical structure is different) thyroid can be metabolized in the stomach and not be transformed or metabolized into another form in the stomach, or liver. Oral thyroid can be taken in either synthetic form (Synthroid or levothyroxine) or natural which is pig thyroid called Armour Thyroid.

Armour thyroid works better in women, and aging men, and the synthetic thyroids work best on men and young people. The way you metabolize your thyroid will be evident in the resolution of your symptoms. Some people can take either kind effectively.

Make sure that you take any thyroid on an empty stomach and wait 20-40 minutes before you eat or drink anything other than water. Do not take other pills with them either, and don't take them the morning of your thyroid test.

Very informative! I wish I would have seen this before I had my thyroidectomy, but I had nodules in mine that were causing me other problems. I just heard Dr. Kathy on the Glover show and was wondering if taking a "syntheitic" thyroid pill is just as misleading as the prescription testosterone. She had mentioned that when your body breaks down these pills it doesn't actually get what it needs, and I'm wondering if the case is the same with "synthetic" thyroid medication. If so, do you have a different way of treating someone without a thyroid?

Any response would be appreciated! Great video!
